Yachting community hits dry land & heads off on two wheels!

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Cannes Editor Updated

For the second year now C4C (Cogs4Cancer) will be taking on a six stage road cycling route in order to raise money for both local and international cancer charities.

The team of cyclists will ride more than 850km from Ancona in Italy to the Cote d'Azur town of Antibes in just six days. They are hoping to raise a whopping €200,000 and are not far from achieving their target at the moment with a current total of nearly €179,000! Donations raised online will go directly to Cancer Research UK, a charity dedicated to beating cancer through research, finding ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and with the ultimate aim of saving lives. Money raised locally will be split between two local charities on the south coast of France – ISIS in Mougins; an English & French speaking support group who help patients through their treatments/chemo, and Lenval, the children’s cancer unit at Nice hospital.

This is a self funded trip so you can be sure that any donations will go directly to the charities. The International group of cyclist from the yachting industry have received support from various areas, including some celevrity endorsement from superstar Rihanna! Each cyclist also have their own individual sponsors as well as team sponsorship from Gourmet Deliveries, a yacht supply company. The 'pink ladies' from Gourmet Deliveries will be on route with the team making sure that they have a healthy diet and keep well fed and watered.

"We are so very happy that the Gourmet girls are back once again to support C4C 2014. Their help last year made the ride possible - after several hours in the saddle it was an absolute joy to turn a corner and see a lunch table set up complete with table cloth and flowers - they say an army marches on its stomach, a peloton needs fuel (and lots of it) to make it to the end of each day (where there always seemed to be a nice chilled bottle of Magners waiting)," says Ben Young, the event organiser.
