Strikes threaten major travel disruptions on October 10th

Flights throughout Europe could face major disruptions on Thursday October 10th as air controllers in France, Germany, Spain and Portugal plan strike action.

The Air Traffic Controllers European Unions Coordination (ATCEUC) has released a statement to say there is a high chance of “heavy delays and some cancellations are expected all over Europe but particularly in those countries where the industrial action will take place such as Germany, France, Spain and Portugal

The ATCEUC represents 14,000 controllers in 26 countries and is calling for a strike following amendments to Single European Sky (SES) regulations that would imply drastic restructuring of the air traffic control network.

Strikes are expected to occur over the following time period(s), and is also likely to affect travel in the following few days.

  • France: 04:00-18:00 UTC
  • Spain: 07:00-09:00 and 15:00-17:00 UTC

Travellers are advised to check in with their airlines and Cannes airport prior to travel.

UPDATE: The ATCEUC have postponed any possible strike action, after the European Commission have amended the plans for the SES project.
