The next 24 hours are set to be pretty stormy

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Cannes Editor Updated

You might have noticed it's been raining a bit in Cannes today?!?

As many people drive across France either going on holiday, or coming back from one, mother nature has decided to wet things down a little bit and throw in the odd hail storm for effect - In the Loire, hailstones the size of a tennis ball dropped on the village of Champdieu (see video).

These storms have been (and will continue to be) locally severe, with strong gusts of wind up to 100 km/h, with heavy rain or hail. In the next 24 hours rainfall may reach 80 mm in some places.

The Ardeche basin is on high alert as water levelsare rising quite rapidly.

In the region of 23,000 homes were without power in the Dordogne & Limousin regions caused by trees falling on electrical cables.

Needless to say it's not a great time to be out doing mountain or forest walks, and the roads & motorways are going to be pretty horrendous. Please note that in bad weather the motorway limit reduces from 130 kph to 110 kph.

Stay safe & if you do happen to snap any great pictures or take any intersting videos, please send them in to us.
