It was a cloudy start of the race for the Nice-Cannes Marathon runners last Sunday as they set off from the Promenade des Anglais. Nice's iconic avenue had been left out of the route in 2016 as a result of the terror attack just four months before, but the race returned to this beautiful setting this year.

13,300 people took part in what is deemed to be the most beautiful marathon race in France. For a little bit over 42 kilometres, participants ran along the Cote d'Azur passing through picturesque villages and beautiful landscapes. The first runners arrived at La Croisette in Cannes at around 10:00, while the last ones got there four hours later.

The winner was Ethiopian Dejene Kelkilew with a time of 2 hours, 12 minutes and 10 seconds, followed by Kenyans Cosmos Birech (2h 12min 20sec) and Alfred Kering (2h 12min 31sec). The first woman was Ethiopian Tejitu Siyum with 2 hours 33minutes and 21seconds.
