An amazing 100,000 spectators gathered along the Cote d'Azur marathon route to cheer on the athletes last Sunday.

The 7th edition of the Nice-Cannes Marathon, where runners set off from the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and run the 42.2km to Cannes, has been hailed a great success. The second most popular race in France after the Paris marathon takes runners along the stunning coastline of the French Riviera and passes through Cagnes sur Mer, Villeneuve Loubet, Antibes, Juan les Pins and Vallauris Golfe Juan on its way to the finish line in Cannes. It is an unusual race as 95% of it takes place along spectacular coastline, and not through city streets that are the norm for marathons across the globe.

The race is split into individual and team events with 6,821 individual runners, 1,400 pairs taking on the 'duo' marathon and 450 teams in the team relay. The winner came home in an astonishing time of 2 hours 9 minutes...I can't even imagine doing a half marathon in this time! It was Ethiopian athlete Shumi Hailu who took this honour in the individual race.

So now we look forward to the 8th Edition of this fantastic event with the hope of more competitors, more spectators and maybe a little less rain...
