The announcement was made by Christian Estrosi, President of the Regional Council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, on Monday at the headquarters of the Automobile Club de France in Paris.

The last French F1 Grand Prix was held back in 2008, with the last one on the Castellet circuit being hosted in 1990. The Paul Ricard circuit at Le Castellet, hosted the French GP 14 times between 1971 and 1990, with the last race there being won by the four times world champion, French driver Alain Prost.

The Castellet circuit will once again be back in the spotlight, in 2018 when the French F1 returns to the Var region. Bringing with it an expected €65 million in economic benefits to the region. With over 66,000 spectators and some 3000 staff members who work on the Grand Prix circuit, we can be sure that this will be a busy time for the Cote d'Azur.

The date of the event in 2018 is as yet to be decided.
