You can rent your stand up paddle board from half an hour up to a week at a time, perfect to liven up a cruise around the Mediterranean. Their nearby surf shop also sells all kinds of gear related to surf, windsurfing and paddle-boarding.

They offer special rates for registered members of the surfing, SUP, sailing and kayak federation.

Their range of boards is wide, from easy-to-use boards for calm rides to those prepared to race even on a rough sea. They also rent adjustable aluminium or carbon paddles.

3. Airxkite Kitesurf, Cannes la Bocca

Airxkite offers full courses on kite surfing, including theory and practical. All Airxkite classes in the water take place between April to November.

The first day is on the ground at "Base nature" in Fréjus. After, it's on the water at Cannes. All the equipment is provided and the classes are structured from beginner level to expert. They also offer rental equipment and lessons in stand up paddle boarding. The object is always to focus on safety, discovery of the activity and practice so that you can develop your skills.

4. Association Cannes Jeunesse Water Sports Centre

With two locations, one in Cannes and another one on Île Ste Marguerite, this association organises sailing, sea kayaking and wind surfing courses throughout the year.

Their lessons are aimed at all ages and levels, and can be in a group or private. They run throughout the year, and they offer more intensive courses during the summer.

They also rent equipment: wind surf boards, catamarans, kayaks and stand up paddle boards.

5. Kayak Hire

Based in Antibes, their kayak & SUP activities extend along the French Riviera and include the Iles de Lerins.

You can choose to hire a Kayak (one or two person) and head out onto the water to discover the beautiful area and the activity for yourself. Hire is possible for a few hours, a half day or a full day, so it's up to you to plan your day!

Alternatively, you can choose to take a private lesson or try one of their group coastal tours. They offer guided tours varying from easy discovery trips, to more sporty outings and a sunset trip.

For rentals Cape Kayak use sit-on-top kayaks, for the sporty ones they also have a fleet of surfskis that are long and fast kayaks.

It is a great activity to do with friends and family or to give as a gift.

6. Paddle Boarding Tours & Hire

Based in Antibes, their activities extend along the French Riviera and include the Iles de Lerins.

You can choose to hire a SUP or take one of their coastal tours.

They offer guided tours varying from easy trips focused on fun, to longer more challenging tours. Their main three options are:

  • Discovery Tour: This 1 hour tour will introduce you to Paddle-boarding and allow you to explore some of the beautiful coastline alone the French Riviera with a fully qualified instructor
  • Coastal Tour: This 2 hour tour is for those that want a more challenging and sporty excursion of all the magnificent sites around the Cap d'Antibes.
  • Sunset Tour: An early evening 1 hour paddle along the coastline taking in the spectacular colours cast at dusk, as the moon slowly rises.

You can also choose to take private or group lessons with one of their instructors. It is a great activity to do with friends and family or to give as a gift.

Alternatively, you can choose to simply hire a paddle board from 1hr through to a full day.

For rentals Cape Kayak have versatile SUP boards for touring, and for the more sporty the 'race' 12'6" boards.

About Watersports in Cannes

When it comes to jetskiing among superyachts or kayaking along a coastline lined with palm trees and art deco hotels, Cannes has to be one of the most glamorous and fun places along the Riviera to indulge in a day of watersports.

With long sandy beaches lined with watersport rentals and pontoons offering wakeboarding, parasailing and jetboat activities, Cannes has a huge range of watersports to choose from. You could also head off the coast for a bit of kitesurfing, learn to sail with a local club, or rent a boat to visit the nearby stunning Cannes islands. Under the water, there are several dive clubs and good snorkelling opportunities.

Most of the watersports operators open every day in summer, with weekend operations in June and September. Things get a lot quieter over the winter, although you will still find paddleboards, kayaks and boats to rent in some places. The wind really picks up as of October, bringing good conditions for kiteboarders and windsurfers.
