Creative minds come to Cannes in 2016

The Cannes Lions have once again brought in a huge list of game-changing thinkers and some of the biggest names in music and film to speak during the 2016 festival.

Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity takes place from 18th June until 25th June 2016 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. The most obvious names that are topping bill this year are Oscar winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, the godfather of punk Iggy Pop, world famous illusionist David Copperfield and Anna Wintour, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue and Artistic Director of Condé Nast.

Not only is A-list celebrity Gwyneth Paltrow an actress but she is also a decorated author and singer. In 2008 Paltrow launched goop, a brand devoted to making every choice count. In particular, goop has gained acclaim for its focus on health, wellness, and clean eating, as well as its city guides, an insider’s perspective on the very best places to eat, shop, and stay in the world’s most compelling destinations.

BBC journalist, Stephen Sackur, presenter of HARDtalk, BBC World News' flagship current affairs show, will interview Gwyneth Paltrow at 13:00 on Wednesday 22nd June.

Widely acknowledged as one of the most dynamic stage performers of all time, Iggy Pop has been at the forefront of the music industry since the late 1960s. Now, in 2016, He is making a solo return with a new album, 'Post Pop Depression', which was co-created with Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age.

David Copperfield has been described as the king of Magic and the greatest magician alive. He has changed the future of his particular form of art and entertainment and shown that there are no limits. He will be speaking at 'Making Magic: The Art of Illusion in Modern Brand Narrative' at 16:00 on Saturday 18th June.

The main subject of the documentary film 'The September Issue', Anna Wintour is a force to be reckoned with in the world of fashion, fashion magazines and art. Awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for her service to British journalism and fashion in 2008, President Obama then appointed her to the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities in 2009. Most recently, in 2011 she was awarded the Legion d’Honneur by French President Nicolas Sarkozy. She also serves as an Elective Trustee of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Quite the illustrious career!

Other speakers at the event have been selected from a mix of creative backgrounds, companies, countries and disciplines. Shane Smith the Founder and CEO of VICE with join Spike Jonze on Thursday 23rd June to talk about 'Making content we care about'. The creative director of Facebook, Mark D'Arcy will also be at Cannes Lions hosting an event on Wednesday 22nd June called 'Connect The World. Create for the World'.

In keeping with some of the most successful internet companies, Brian Chesky, the CEO and Co-Founder of Airbnb will be in conversation with Joanna Coles at 16:00 on Monday 20th June.

From the NGO angle we will have Sherine Guirguis, senior communications manager for Polio Eradication with UNICEF. She will be speaking at an event alongside Aaron Sherinian, the chief communications and marketing officer at the United Nations Foundations. 'Accelerating the Eradication of Polio with Creativity' will be presented at 10:30 on Sunday 19th June.
