The first celebrity names to attend the 2018 Cannes Film Festival are being announced by its organisers. After making public that Cate Blanchett will be this year's jury president, Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro has been named jury president of the festival's Un Certain Regard section.

Having won a Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008 for his portrayal of Ernesto "Che" Guevara in Che, and nominated in 2012 for a Un Certain Regard Award for 7 Días en La Habana, del Toro returns to the French Riviera to preside over the Un Certain Regard jury. Benicio has some experience in the matter as he was part of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival Jury when Thai film Uncle Boonmee won the Palme d'Or.

Un Certain Regard ("A Certain Glance") is where non-traditional movies compete in Cannes. Twenty unique works will be screened this year. Past winners include Mohammad Rasoulof, Jasmine Trinca, Mathieu Amalric, Taylor Sheridan and Michel Franco.
