The brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen, have been asked to serve as co-presidents of the 68th Cannes Film Festival jury.

A prestigious position and one that has never before been given to two people. The Coen brothers themselves are no strangers to the Film Festival, having won the coveted Palme d'Or in 1991 for their film 'Barton Fink', and having twice won best director for the films, 'Fargo' and 'The Man Who Wasn't there'.

“We look forward to returning to Cannes this year,” the Oscar-winning directors said in a statement. “We welcome as always the opportunity to watch movies there from all over the world. Cannes is a festival that has been important to us since the very beginning of our career. Presiding over the Jury is a special honour, since we have never heretofore been president of anything. We will issue further proclamations at the appropriate time.”

As the first even co-presidents of the panel they will be expected to judge some twenty plus films for the festival which takes place this year from 13th to 24th of May. The official line-up of films entered, and the other jury members, will be announced in April.
