Big beach bags banned in Cannes
It's time to re-think those essential beach items
As a security precaution after the terror attack in Nice on 14th July 2016, the Mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, has banned people from bringing large bags to the beach.
The attack in the city of Nice on Bastille Day rocked the nation and now towns in the South of France are taking precautions to ensure visitor safety. Cannes Mayor David Lisnard says the restriction seeks to stop "bags that could contain explosives or weapons and allows police forces to intervene in a pragmatic way."
The ban, which is on large backpacks, suitcases and other luggage, will run until the end of October, and not only affects the beaches but also the seafront area and roads leading to the beach. The areas concerned are boulevard Eugène Gazagnaire, boulevard de la Croisette, le quai Saint Pierre, boulevard Jean Hibert and boulevard du Midi-Louise Moreau à La Bocca.
It might be time to 'travel light' to Cannes; take advantage of the wonderful beach clubs instead of taking a packed lunch, book a sun lounger instead of taking a towel and why bother packing your entire wardrobe when you can explore the shops and boutiques of Cannes.
