On their way to the French Riviera for a holiday, a French family were alerted to the fact that their three year old daughter was in a rest area just off the A7 by a Police radio message.

Having already passed Aix-en-Provence on their way to St Raphael they immediately turned around. The child was discovered by other holiday makers on Sunday afternoon near to Loriol in the Drome region. The three year was unable to tell her rescuers and police more than that she had a brother and a sister, was going to the seaside and saw "Daddy's car pull away".

During one of the busiest times on French motorways there are millions of families travelling, both French and foreign, and this family were lucky that their daughter was found so quickly.

The parents were being questioned last night by local police, who have said “We are going to listen to what they have to say and talk to the prosecutor at Valence to see if this should be taken further.”

Doing an hourly head-count on your summer holiday might not be such a bad idea!
