Summer Footwear is a Must But Not if You're Driving in Cannes

Flip flops, sandals, jandals or thongs...

No matter what you call them, there are an essential item in everyone's summer wardrobe. But if you are getting behind the wheel then you'd better re-think your footwear options.

A French driver in the Haute-Garonne region, around Toulouse, was recently fined 90 € for driving in flip flops. Originally stopped as part of a routine roadside check the police officers then noticed her flip flops and issued an on the spot fine for her inappropriate footwear.

The reason given for the fine being issued was that flip flops can come off too easily and could get jammed under a pedal. But flip flops are not the only fashion accessory to be affected by French traffic regulations. Last year, France's Supreme Court issued a judgement against wearing high heels behind the wheel.

Our best advice is to keep a pair of sensible shoes in the car, that way you won't be caught out!
