Circuit de l'Aiguille

A short walk around the red cliffs of the Golfe de la Napoule

featured in Hiking & walking routes Updated

A short walk with a small climb taking in the best the bay has to offer. Towering red rocks, deep vegetation and crashing blue waves make this walk a must for all the family.

The rugged landscape formed from volcanic rock from the end of the primary era gives way to a beautiful pebble beach sheltered from the sometimes strong, mistral winds. These small beaches and coves were once the prime location for smugglers to come ashore. The cave of Gardanne was named after one lucky smuggler who managed to escape by taking refuge in the coves.

Directions

From the parking in the centre of town near the beach you follow the coast east towards Plage de l'Aiguille. Next to the restaurant L'Aiguille there is a small path that rises through the forest and then heads towards the Parc de la Point de l'Aiguille. Here is a magnificent viewing point to take in the whole bay.

After rejoining the path by retracing your steps for a few meters head south and climb up to the D6098, Boulevard de la Corniche d'Or. Follow it west then take the first small road on its left hand side. This lead up and onto Rue Abel Ballif. Just after the main road turning right, Boulevard Saint-Hubert, there is a small path that climbs to the highest point of the circuit. Once on Boulevard des Alpes you can enjoy more uninterrupted views of the bay and the town below.

To return to the start, follow this road west taking Chemin de la Calade then a small series of steps down to Rue de la Source. Continue along Boulevard de la Corniche d'Or to the Beach and the starting point.
