Discover the top Cannes golf clubs
Thanks to its warm, sunny climate and few rainy days, Cannes and the French Riviera is the perfect spot for a round of golf. Enthusiasts and visitors have plenty golf courses at their disposal to practise this sport, most of which welcome tourists and other non-members.
Golf in Cannes
The closest golf course to Cannes is the Old Course at Mandelieu-la-Napoule, which is the oldest course on the Riviera. If you want to tread the greens with the celebrities, head inland to the world-class Cannes-Mougins Golf Club in the rolling hills (but remember your wallet-green fees will set you back 120-200 euro.) One thing the Riviera certainly isn't short of is golf clubs.
Biot has two golf courses very nearby. The 18-hole Biot Golf Course is one of the oldest courses on the Riviera, offering a flat, lovely, (if very short) course of some difficulty. It offers gorgeous views of the old village of Biot, as well as a friendly club which welcomes non-members with a good restaurant, club rental, lessons, driving range and pro-shop. In nearby Sophia Antipolis, you'll find Le Provencal Golf, a 9 hole architect-designed course offering narrow fairways and stunning views of the Alps.
Further down the coast towards Frejus is the Golf and Tennis Club Valescure just outside Saint Raphael, with an 18 hole, par 68 course. This is a very short course with narrow fairways, small greens and a number of water hazards.
Unsurprisingly for a hilltop village, there is no golf course at Gourdon- the closest club to Gourdon is the spectacular 18 hole Golfe de Grande Bastide, 7kms away in the beautiful town of Grasse.
There are actually three 18 hole golf courses around Grasse, all of which offer stunning views of mountains, village and sea. There's a lovely and quite challenging course at Golfe de Saint Donat, while in nearby Chateuneuf-de-Grasse you'll find the open fairways and panoramic views of Golfe de la Grande Bastide. The Golf du Claux-Amic is set on an old hunting estate among the oak trees, with breathtaking views- this course design requires exactitude.
A 10 minute drive from La-Colle-sur-Loup is a the 9 hole course Golfe de Villeneuve-Loubet. Complemented by a 40-bay driving range, a putting green and a pro-shop and a restaurant, the course has been recently upgraded. It's not the most glamorous club on the Riviera but it is tranquil, friendly, affordable and accessible.
The low hills around Valbonne are good golf country, and the Opio-Valbonne Golf Club lies just near the village. This par 73, 18 hole course is not particularly challenging but is set in an area of incredible natural beauty, with lovely views and a few tricky shots.
The Leyrin Island - Golfing monks? Not really- so you're out of luck if you'd hoped for a quick round of golf on the island. There isn't a golf course on any of the islands but of course there are plenty of world-class golf clubs back on the mainland. So you are best to stick to those!
Have a look at our Golf Courses page for more information and details for each course.
