What's on in Cannes October 2017

Fall for autumn in the south of France

The summer is well and truly over; the nights are getting darker and there is a nip in the air during the evening that means that those nights that we can enjoy dining outside are numbered.

However, this doesn't mean there is nothing to see or do in Cannes in autumn. In fact, for some, it is the most charming time of year and can certainly be in the running for the most beautiful season. The red leaves on the trees, the golden glow of the brush and those sunsets that turn the world the pink and purple - for me, this is Cannes at its best.

Cannes is possibly one of the most famous destinations for exhibitions and conferences. The fantastic Palais des Festivals plays host to events such as the Cannes Film Festival, MIDEM (International Music Market) and Cannes lions Festival of Creativity. October is the month for MIPCOM - the world's leading entertainment content market, and the Duty Free & Travel Retail Global Summit.

Things get a bit sporty during the second week of the month as the Roc d'Azur mountain biking event brings together all things two-wheeled in the spirit of celebrating the sport of mountain biking in Frejus. With over 20,000 participants, 300 exhibitors and an expected 150,000 visitors over the five days, this is a sporting event to suit everyone. With family entertainment to professional racing, this event should not be missed.

South of France is renowned for its good quality wine and Cannes is not one to miss out on a party - put those two together and you get the event Les Vendanges de Cannes, celebrating the grape harvest and wine! During an exclusive evening, the vineyards of the region share the location of about 20 prestigious shops and invite you to discover their greatest vintage wine.

The wind takes centre stage on the 21st and 22nd October with the International Air Festival in Frejus. This is the third largest kite festival in France and includes single line kits and stunts kits as well as other aerial treats. The village area will include workshops and some especially for kids where they can learn to build and decorate kites.

Before September ends...

Before we are done and dusted with the month of September, don't forget that the wonderful Regates Royales yachting race and celebrations will be evident in the Bay of Cannes this coming weekend. If you fancy getting close up to the action you can enjoy a 3hr boat trip with champagne lunch out at sea.
