Mougins is a pretty perched village in the hills behind Cannes, well known for its art galleries and good restaurants. The easiest way to get to Mougins is by car via the A8 and Route 85. There is a bus route (600) from Cannes to Grasse that stops in Mougins. There is a Cannes-Grasse trainline that stops in the nearby town of Mouans-Sartoux, but you will still have to take the 600 bus the last leg, take a taxi, or walk the 2kms to Mougins.
Mougins has a very strong culinary history; the great chefs Roger Verge and Alain Ducasse have both had restaurants here. When you couple this with the wealthy clientele living in the surrounding hills and the international gastronomy festival held each September, the very high number of excellent restaurants starts to make sense. For Michelin star gastronomy head to Paloma or Le Candille, with Picasso's favourite restaurant L'Amandier De Mougins coming in for a special commendation. For dining in a famous restaurant housed in a 16th century mill, visit Le Moulins de Mougins, or enjoy an excellent meal looking out on the square at Place de Mougins. Many restaurants in Mougins offer spectacular views; remember to book ahead in the summer months to ensure a table on the terraces.

Much of the centre of the 'old' village dates back to the 11th to 15th centuries, and some of the medieval city wall still exists, including one of the three ancient gate towers (Porte Sarrazine). There are several art galleries and museums in Mougins worth visiting- in particular the Mougins Museum of Classical Art, which has an excellent collection of antiquities, as well as modern artworks by Picasso, Damien Hirst, Matisse and Rodin. Also worth a visit is the Photography museum, located in the centre of the old town, which houses a display of antique cameras alongside photos of famous artists, including Picasso. Speaking of Picasso (as one tends to do a lot in Mougins), head to the Chapel Notre-Dame-de-Vie across the valley from Mougins, where Picasso lived out his years in the villa next door. The church itself is a lovely 13th century building among the cypress trees; Winston Churchill once painted it on a visit to Mougins.
